Background
Dr. Brückner studied pharmacy at the Free University of Berlin and carried out his doctoral studies in cooperation with Charité and with the support of a Schering stipendium at Humboldt University. His doctoral thesis was in the field of electrophysiological investigations of neuroprotection and memory enhancement. He then carried out basic academic research and worked for the pharmaceutical industry.
In 2002, Dr. Brückner began his training in intellectual property field, which lead to his admission to the German patent bar in 2005. He was employed in the patent department of a large internationally-known German company and thereafter in two patent law firms.
He is admitted to practice as a German patent attorney, as an European patent attorney and as a trademark attorney.
Expertise and Focus
Dr. Brückner is one of the few patent attorneys in Germany having a pharmacist background. This qualification, in combination with his corporate in-house experience, makes him a sought after contact for legal and entrepreneurial issues, as well as for questions relating to the manufacture of medicaments (galenics) and interactions between medicaments and the body (pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics).
A focus of his activities as a lawyer lies in representing clients in patent prosecution as well as opposition, nullity and infringement proceedings, particularly in the pharmaceutical and chemical fields.
Publications and Projects
Dr. Brückner is the author of the German-English commentary, SUPPLEMENTARY PROTECTION CERTIFICATES as well as co-author of the Singer / Stauder COMMENTARY ON THE EUROPEAN PATENT CONVENTION.
The Higher Regional Court of Dusseldorf has selected Dr. Brückner as a court-appointed expert in 2012.
In 2016, the Max-Planck-Institute-for-Innovation-and-Competition requested that Dr. Brückner participates in the preparation of a study commissioned by the EU. The purpose of the study is to determine whether the current EU Regulation 469/2009 for SPCs meets today’s technical and legal requirements.

Dr. Brückner is a member of VPP, FICPI, EPI, EPLIT, DPhG (German Pharmaceutical Association) and the Richard-Wagner-Verband (Richard Wagner Association).
